Why We Love Essential Oils Part 4: Mrs. Pennington’s FavoriteS

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Hey friends! It’s officially summer here in the Pennington casa! My last day of teaching for the 2016-17 school year was this past week. I’m so excited for a mix of lazy days at home with my kids and a monumental amount of vacations this summer! Our family has so many fun plans made for fun in the sun–Disney trips, concerts, summer camps, lake visits, and at least one road trip! I might actually need a vacation from vacations by the time August rolls around. Planning a trip is hard work and packing is the worst! Who’s with me here?!

Well, one thing that will be easy for me to pack is some of my favorite Young Living essential oils! Today I’m going to share with you two of my favorites. This was painstaking, I must say. I have far more than two oils that I love!

My number one Young Living essential oil choice is (drumroll)…

Purification

Purification is my go-to for, well, just about everything! I absolutely love the citrus-y smell of this oil when it is diffused or used topically! It’s a blend of lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, myrtle, citronella, and lavender. Here are some of my favorite uses for Purification:

Outside Oil

Apply this oil topically for campfires, picnics, and hikes in the woods. You can also mix with water in a glass spray bottle to spray the area around you. With ingredients like Young Living citronella and lemongrass, you’ll be able to enjoy the great outdoors without a constant buzzing around your family!

Pet Odors

We have an old lady Boston Terrier in our house. She’s a pretty good girl for the most part. Sometimes, though, she just gets too comfy to go outside to pee. A few weeks back she had an accident IN my 10 year old’s bed! I scrubbed the spot down with soapy water, but it was of zero help. Then I had a lightbulb moment! I mixed 5 drops of purification in with some baking soda and sprinkled it on the mattress. Then let it sit for several hours, then swept it up with the vacuum. I bravely put my nose to the spot and smelled nothing!

Sweaty Kid Funk

Baseball, martial arts, summer camp–all of these produce smelly socks (and other clothes!) I started adding about 5 extra drops of Young Living Purification into my homemade laundry soap when I have an extra funky smelling load. This works super well for Mr. Pennington’s filthy work uniforms as well! You can also add a drop to a cotton ball and put them in the toes of stinky shoes!

Polka Dot Face

Let’s face it…my face is not a perfect canvas! Sometimes it looks pretty polka dotted which is so annoying! I apply Young Living Purification directly to my “dots” and it takes a way the color, plus seems to reverse the puffiness!

Room Freshener

I diffuse this like crazy because I love the scent! You can also mix Purification in a spray bottle with witch hazel to use as a natural alternative to fabric refresher products. *Always spot check a small inconspicuous area first.

As you can probably tell, I am in absolute love with this oil! It has to share the spotlight though because Young Living Peppermint Oil is loved (almost) as much! There are so many great uses for peppermint oils!  My friend Kari from Ella Sophia has joined me in giving away a batch of her FANTASTIC Peppermint Salt Scrub! This stuff is nothing short of amazing! Especially during these summer months when our feet start getting all “worn” looking!

Spiders and Ticks and Ants…Oh My!

I don’t know about your house, but the Pennington house is full of ants lately! I HATE ants! The cool thing is, ants hate peppermint essential oils! As do spiders and ticks. I mix up a water and peppermint oil mix and spray along the cracks of my doors and windows, as well as down the drain. This latest round of ants has been pretty persistent so I’ve resorted to a drop or two on a cotton ball and placed it near the doors and sinks. As for ticks,  peppermint essential oil is their arch nemesis! Place a drop of peppermint oil directly on a tick and it will back right out of the skin! So long, suckers!

Shampoo Additive

I add a good 10 drops of Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil to every new bottle of shampoo I buy. It can prevent flakes and feels great on your scalp. The scent is also very energizing and helps give a little “get up and go” in the mornings! Combined with Young Living Rosemary Essential Oil I’ve also noticed that my hair is a lot more shiny these days!

Noggins

Ever feel like your noggin might explode? That’s a regular thing around here for all of us! I tell the kids it’s because they’re just getting way too smart. I like to add 2 drops of peppermint oil to a quarter size amount of organic coconut oil and apply to my temples, forehead, and back of my neck to relieve the awful feeling that getting too smart leaves behind. 😉

If You Have a Belly…

…that rumbles, grumbles, and maybe even does tumbles inside–even just a smell of peppermint oil can help with that! For continued aid in this department, Young Living’s Peppermint Essential Oil from the Vitality line can be consumed in a V6 vegetable capsule.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little series on our favorite essential oils, and maybe even learned a thing or two along the way! As always, if you’re interested in learning more about essential oils, you should definitely attend an educational class!  If you’re ready to jump into oils and purchase a Young Living starter kit, you can do that right here!

XoXo
