If you’ve been around here long, you know that our family absolutely adores traveling to Florida! I’m pretty confident your family will too! For most people, Walt Disney World is the first thing that pops into mind when a Florida vacation is mentioned. We do LOVE Disney, but Florida has so many fantastic additional options as well! We spend a good chunk of time in the Orlando area each year, so be sure to check out my separate post about that here!

Disney World

Okay, so we can’t just leave it at that all too brief mention of Disney World. It is the big Florida attraction that everyone talks about, and it is probably the best place in the world for a fun-filled family vacation! I mean,  over 40 million annual guests can attest to that! With thrilling rides based on blockbusters like  Pirates of the Caribbean (actually the film was based on the ride in this case), great family accommodations, and lots of activities at the resorts for the kids so that mom and dad can spend some time having a few drinks at the bar or relaxing in one of the onsite spas, it is pretty much family vacation heaven.

Amelia Island

Amelia Island, which is just under 40 minutes south of Jacksonville International Airport is the place to go if you want family fun without the crowds of Disney World and other big attractions. A pretty little island, it’s great for just chilling on the beach. I’m well aware that relaxing in the sunshine only lasts so long with little people, but don’t worry– you’ll be covered with the various activities that go on there. From geocaching to horseback riding,  and even a pretty river cruise–there really is something for everyone in this little part of Florida.

Gator Beach, Miramar Beach

If you happen to be staying near  Miramar Beach – the Residence Inn Sandestin at Grand Boulevard is a quality family hotel! While in this neck of the woods,  you simply must take the time to visit the Gator Beach! What’s Gator Beach? Well, you guessed it– you will see lots of surprisingly cute live gators having fun. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get to feed them, and you’ll definitely learn more than you ever imagined there was to know about the Florida animals. The kids will truly love it (even if gators aren’t exactly YOUR thing!). I bet you’ll love the bar and grill though!

Clearwater Beach, Gulf Coast

Clearwater beach is located just 40 minutes away from Tampa International Airport, and it is probably one of the best beaches in the USA! Hands down, one of the best in Florida  for families with kids in tow. Why? Because it is home to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium with it’s very friendly and totally adorable dolphins! And because the Great Exploration’s Children’s Museum is just a stone’s throw away. For you grown-ups, the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa is a luxurious place to stay for a day or so. I hear the massages are to die for.

Miami, Florida

Miami is often thought of as being a place for the adults, due to the great many nightclubs and exotic bars in the area. However, it has literally miles and miles of perfectly family-friendly sandy beaches! A visit to the Jungle Island zoological park is great for the kids. Then there’s the Venetian Pool rock quarry which is ideal for swimming and spotting cute marine critters! Tampa is much more family friendly than I ever imagined!

As you can see Florida really is the place for your family to be!
